About
On initial glance, having millions of MSDS records in a huge database is intriguing. They claim the more they have, the more likely that your MSDS will be there. However, after you subscribe, you find yourself spending an extraordinary amount of time building your binders because you must look through several different versions of the same product to find the correct MSDS. Is it industrial strength or ready-to-use? Is it in a flammable aerosol can or a non flammable 55 gallon drum? Does the MSDS represent a product made for Canada or the U.S.? A client of ours told us, “I found myself spending 10-15 minutes looking through 21 varieties of Windex® and 33 versions of Duracell® batteries. Then when I finally did find it, I had to repeat that process for each one of my MSDS’s. Our company spent a year building our library and it still isn’t done!”Also, if you invest that much time building your library, did you realize that you can’t take your information with you when leave? You can pull up the individual MSDS from the manufacturer and save it. But if you view more than your monthly quota you have to pay more. Also, what about the data that you need to organize your system so it is searchable? You will have to re-key all of the contact information, emergency overview, first aid procedures, etc. If you are subject to any SARA Tier II reporting, it becomes a nightmare. In other words, if you want to leave, it is extremely expensive, and then you must start the process all over aga
